Schaeffer, the first ever winners of Breaking the Band, sent this to us:
"Tinderbox and We Are Listening definitely made good on their promises to us after winning the first ever "Breaking the Band." Lior and We Are Listening made a great choice when teaming up with Jon and his Tinderbox crew. They treated us like family, went over and above what they were asked, and gave us some great opportunities to make the next step: Hundreds of college stations are now playing our music, the television licenses came in as promised, we're still being worked to press and media, and the slot during SXSW was the icing on the cake. Whole-heartedly support what you guys are doing. We appreciate working with people who work as hard as we do! Thanks for believing in us."

Find Hundreds of Shows Every Night
ItsLiveMusic.com is a new search engine, currently in beta, for live music event listings throughout the US. The search engine sorts through and aggregates thousands of online sources to find all the live music events listed online at any given time. It also finds and displays basic information about the artists and the venues, and automatically creates a profile page for each. Shows are listed on artists’ and venues’ individual pages and the system also automatically displays the shows on any other relevant page on the website.
It takes just a few clicks to learn about a live event in your home town, who’s playing, what time, how to get there and whether the venue has parking and until what time they serve food – if at all. Artists benefit from networking features that make it easier for punters to discover them and associate their music with trendy venues.
Search on the fly for a good night out.

Grooveshark: Share Music Legally
Gooveshark is the latest addition to the online music sharing community and though still in Beta, it looks to have a promising model for encouraging the spread of good music based on a unique rewards model.
Like BitTorrent or thesixtyone, Grooveshark follows the traditional networking model for sharing music, and spreading the word about good music within the community. Grooveshark deals specifically in DRM-free mp3s and users may listen to music for free on the website and/or purchase it for download. Users who frequently recommend music that is then purchased by other users are rewarded with purchasing credit that they can use to buy music from the site. Like several other sites, you can also upload your own music to the site and offer it for purchase, with a 50/50 revenue split.
What makes Grooveshark unique is that it is currently testing a model that will allow a user to purchase any music from any other user in the network, not just from the website itself. Though the music industry might not be thrilled about the prospect, Grooveshark’s stated aim is to “compensate everyone in the value chain” and they insist that they will utilize a revenue-sharing model that will compensate everyone “fairly”, without copyright infringement. If their revenue sharing proves to be successful, Grooveshark may be the answer to lost revenues from illegal filesharing.

Uber.com has just announced that it is teaming up with Atlantic Records, The Agency Group and Peer Music distribution to create the ultimate big-break for aspiring music artists: the www.youbringthetalent.com competition.
Uber.com, which is quickly making its mark as a new social networking, entertainment, fashion, music and e-commerce site, is sponsoring the competition, which runs through March 31, 2008. Entries will be judged by a group of industry professionals including Head of A&R at Atlantic Records, Andy Karp, Val Wolfe of The Agency Group, and Sam Kling, Sr. VP A&R Peer Music Publishing, among others.
The prize package for the winning entry will include an EP release on Atlantic Records, a publishing deal with Peer Music Publishing, booking representation with The Agency Group and distribution with Rebel Music. The winner will also be flown to Los Angeles on an all-expense-paid trip to play at the House of Blues before a crowd of music industry professionals and industry press and media. With a fantastic prize package and a real chance for the lucky (and no-doubt talented) winner to get their big break, www.youbringthetalent.com is definitely an opportunity to keep an eye on.

Whetherman is singer/songwriter Nicholas Williams, from Columbus, Ohio. Much like Joss Stone or John Mayer, Williams has the type of voice that belies his age, race, and a host of other superficial factors. What we are left with, then, is an emotive exhibition that never relents. Williams’ breathy croons leave the speakers with an abundance of emotion and conviction - the sort that renders his tracks instant classics finished with a true sense of timelessness.

TheSixtyOne: Listen, Bump, Collect Points
TheSixtyOne is a music discovery site that rewards users who help other users discover great new music. Artists can easily add their music to TheSixtyOne.com for users to listen to and “bump” up the charts if they like what they hear. Bumping a song costs points but you can gain points if others bump a song that you have bumped. The more points you have, the more influence you have over the music that the community will ultimately discover.
The interface is gorgeous and the navigational features are straight-forward. Categories such as “Hall of Famers”, a best-of-the-best mix, and “The Rack”, a random assortment of tunes, add variety to the experience and more opportunities for exposure to the participating artists.
The music on the site is very professional and the spirit is in the love of discovering new music rather than in the competition to become (or discover) the best.
