“$500 If You Make Me Famous!”
July 18th, 2010 by Lior Shamir
I received this email this morning:
Hi. My name is XXXXXXX. I was wondering if we could maybe strike a deal. You see, I have no money because I am not famous yet. If you can help me become famous, then instead of giving you 30 dollars, I will give you 500 dollars!

Shak, you might try asking Lior directly for some advice. He seems to have a lot of knowledge about the business. I mean, I got a lot of good advice from his company and he directed me to some great resources as well.
After reading some of the post here and thinking about how much I’ve been learning I wrote a blog today. It may offer some resources that can help you. They’re helping me. I’m looking t things differently these days and that’s a good thing. Hang in there man.

Hi. I’ll give you 10 per cent of my sales until 2020 if you get me a decent deal with a label

Just wondering why anybody would take that deal. There is no guarantee that person will become famous, even if you do help him/her. Also, what if that person doesn’t become successful and can’t even afford to pay you even $30? Or what if that person becomes very successful and you decide you want more than $500 now that you know he/she can afford to pay you more? I don’t know if I am making any sense. Something just seems a little fishy about this deal. Where did this come from?

I think he was jesting, Abby, but if he wasn’t and I were to take the deal, it would be a risk that I would have to be willing to take. The point is that the risk vs. reward ($500) is grossly disproportional… at least from my point of view.

Indie artists have limited resources building a home studio or using a commercial studio to hiring a Publicist, working a day job to working the music full time on a shoe string budget to no budget. So maybe a development deal for those who have commercial potential and that 500.00 would be a finders fee upon successful deal and release!

Although the person who posed this question seems to be poking fun at the idea of charging for the services We Are Listening provides I really don’t think they would have jested in such a way if they realized this concept:
I think what many people fail to realize in the music industry and in life in general is that people are asking the wrong question. Instead of asking, “Can you make me famous?” Ask, “What wisdom/resources can you share that will lead me to my ultimate goals and dreams?”
Fame is fleeting & unfulfilling (Just ask or watch many of the celebertis who thought fame would answer their life’s problems or just look at the compromises they make & how low many stoop on these reality shows and observe tragic fall out on shows like Celebrity Rehab) but when a person takes the time to figure out what will creat a life of significance for THEM (NOT their Mom or Dad or anyone else) and begin asking questions, first to themselves about what they want to create, and then to people who can point them in the right direction that is when they will make moves in the direction that will bring lasting results that matter to them and those who hear their music or whatever product or service they create.

I know it’s possible to be rich and famous as history is full of wealthy people who we have no idea what their names are or what they did to achieve their great wealth unless we research.
I enjoyed your cover of Billie Jean Stephen! And a creative job on your video using limited resources. Continued success to you in your career!

They Must be trying that guerrilla marketing tactic I keep hearing about. I guess everybody has an angle nowadays.

If you could make them famous for 500, why not make yourself famous, and make some real money
July 19th, 2010 at 4:28 pm
Yeah!!
I´ll give 50% of my income if you make me famous. If my music is worth it your work will be paid; if it is not worth it, everything is a scam.

If you invest 50% of your income on resources that help educate you on how to navigate the business world of music that will be a great investment! Most people would never do that so (for a plethora of excuses) you would be instantly putting yourself ahead of the learning curve. Taking your music career (and life) in your own hands is the way to go.
