After much deliberation, endless bickering and a potential injunction sparked by a fist fight between two panelists (one of which has since left our party to devote his twilight to bohemianism), a winner has been selected from the efficacious six finalists and the name is Streetlab. Not your ordinary detergent, Streelab’s sheen is brighter than its rivals, and most certainly a serendipitous discovery in an event like Breaking the Band. Armed with retro-rock-gressive samples and rubber gloves, the electro-duo have been cleaning house with filthy remixes that will make any alpha male put the toilet seat down. Daz rite. New York City has a new Sherriff in town with an NYSound. Ladies and paperweights, Streetlab, ay?

Since the release of his debut album, “The Living Room Sessions”, in April 2008, Andrew Allen has toured and played live in more than 200 venues throughout Western Canada and the UK, secured airtime on the UK’s BBC Radio 1 as well as on Canada’s own CBC radio, and, most recently, won Round 1 of The 2009 Singer/Songwriter Awards from We Are Listening. His winning entry, “Not Loving You”, draws striking resemblance to “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, while other tracks from his setlist gravitate toward the sound and songwriting style of Maroon 5, John Mayer and Jack Johnson. Congratulations Andrew, we look forward to working with you!

Discmakers, the CD replication giant that recently acquired CD Baby, announced the launch of a new promotion yesterday for independent artists. The company’s CD and packaging artwork division, The Design Studio, is providing customers that place design orders by the 10th April 2009 with a chance to appear front and center on their print brochure. During the eight week campaign, a panel of professional graphic designers will select 10 CD album artowkr designs from that week’s “pool of design approvals”. On the 20th April 2009, one Grand Prize Winner will be selected for placement on the brochure’s front cover, along with five other selections to appear inside the fall edition. Details…

Overplay, the independent artist platform for music promotion and discovery, announced today that they have given their website a facelift and added some exciting new interface features. To celebrate this re-launch, Overplay are accepting free entries for their international song competition, “Play & Rate”, for which I have been a member of their song competition panel for some time now.

Since 2003, Overplay has been providing independent artists and fans with communication tools and promotional incentives with a one-stop-shop platform. In addition to a variety of awards, sweeps and the “Play & Rate” international song competition, Overplay empowers fledgling artists to sell their digital assets and merchandise directly to their fanbase.
