When Your Plan Doesn’t Go According To Plan

May 21st, 2010 by Lior Shamir

Scott Ginsberg, author and motivational speaker, writes:

Because of our instant gratification culture, we’re impatient.

Because of our privileged upbringing, we developed a mediocre work ethic.

Because of our self-reliant, entrepreneurial bent, we don’t offer loyalty easily.

Because of our abundance of choices, we’re quick to quit and pursue something better.

No wonder we can’t stick with anything for very long.

Now let me ask you this:

Are you sticking to your plan to achieve a successful career in music?

And what do you do when your plan doesn’t go according to plan?

I totally agree with Mr Ginsberg!… especially the privileged part!

I am from the old school of taking your passion/talent/dream, then working REALLY hard and treating it like a full time job, because that is ultimately what you want it to be.

It’s easy to get off track, especially with music (we all heard stuff about getting a proper job!). And when I feel I am stuck I think of it as a seed… if I just keep watering it will grow. (or the Field of Dreams metaphor!)

And it is growing. My hard work is starting to pay off… and the coolest part is that I am getting recognized by my peers for that hard work as well as my music.
