Lyric Writing Competitions

There are dozens of lyric writing competitions available to fledgling writers but only one has set an industry standard with its unique evaluation and rewards programme: the Lyric Writer Awards from We Are Listening. Since its inception in 2006, it has become a leading international platform for lyricists to be ‘heard’ and, of all the available lyric writing competitions, the most important in terms of true music career building opportunities.

Every year, We Are Listening competition panelists select four winners to be represented and introduced to established songwriters and Nashville publishers, with the goal to secure professional co-writing and publishing relationships. Where other lyric writing competitions have fallen short in providing career-developing prizes, We Are Listening has delivered relevant prizes by acting on behalf of our winners and procuring pertinent songwriting and publishing agreements with the support of our panelists and vast music industry network.

We Are Listening’s panel of judges for the Lyric Writer Awards include Chris Farren, Founder & CEO, and Chris Van Belkom, Creative Director, at Combustion Music; Andrea Stolpe, co-writer of “Fireflies” (cut by Faith Hill); and Pat Pattison and Henry Gaffney, lyric writing professors at the renowned Berklee College of Music, to name just a few.

If you’ve submitted your work to lyric writing competitions in the past or considering taking part in the future, keep in mind that the Lyric Writer Awards is the only career-oriented opportunity to have your words professionally reviewed and published.
